In response to a request from the Center for Reproductive Rights, UUWF added our voices to a list of 55 groups that wrote President Obama. Collectively, we objected to proposals being considered that would allow groups working with women abroad to opt out of even providing referrals for women needing life-saving abortions or those who have been raped. Those procedures are allowed under the Helms Amendment which has previously, without exception, supported safe abortion services in limited circumstances including rape, incest and maternal health endangerment.
