“Mothers” are often defined in biological terms, but UUWF believes that mothering is a matter of cultural practice–the practice of birthing and nurturing the growth of a transformed world.
Mothering builds the future and brings to life our collective dreams.
Women+ are, and always have been, mothering the movement for collective liberation.
Mothering is laboring–physically, spiritually, collectively.
Mothering is loving each other’s full and flawed humanity, and helping each other grow into our best selves.
Mothering cultivates resilience, connection, and authenticity.
Mothering is open heart and steel spine;
Telling hard truths and offering solace;
Leading with compassion and living into accountability.
Mothering holds space for creativity and rest;
Mistakes and growth;
Reflection and agitation;
Pain and healing;
Messiness and cohesion;
Imagination and wisdom.
Mothering is holding safe space. Mothering is lifting up all voices. Mothering is a home base from which we take our most courageous steps. Mothering transforms.
During May, we honor all the women+ who practice mothering–as aunties, activists, parents, organizers, teachers, artists, healers, visionaries, protesters, homemakers, caregivers, leaders, survivors, influencers, daughters, spouses, sisters, spiritual advisors, storytellers, friends.
We celebrate the transformative power of mothering, and invite you to join us in mothering the movement for collective liberation.
